ABOUT STONEWALL RIDGE FARM
Stonewall Ridge Farm (SR), turned from dream to reality in 2010 when Nancy and Gary Fayard acquired the property. Located in the beautiful rolling hills of middle Tennessee, the farm is surrounded on three sides by the Duck River, the most biologically diverse river in North America. The farm is an hour drive south of Nashville, Tennessee, and hour north of Huntsville, Alabama and on the trail of Uncle Nearest, George Dickel and Jack Daniel distilleries.
SR opened its doors in 2013, and since then, has embarked on an angus breeding program which utilizes advanced technology, analytics, and phenotype to produce leading edge angus cattle. In 2019, SR expanded its operations to include Knob Creek Farm which allows greater acreage per cow.
We pride ourselves in living our principles everyday:
Excellence: In everything we do
Balance: Phenotype and Genetics
Integrity: In how we treat our animals, our employees, our customers and our suppliers
BREEDING
At SR, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards for our cattle -this includes our vaccination and breeding protocols, nutrition program, veterinary care, and management routines that ensure the cattle are comfortable and in a low stress environment.
We employ the latest breeding technologies with advanced analytics to develop value-added genetics for our customers.
DIRT VS SOIL
We purchased dirt, but the goal is soil. Soil is a complex, living mixture of minerals, organic matter and organisms which form the earth's skin. Each season, we strive to improve our fields as naturally as possible. Our soils support and feed the plant life, which is vital for our cattle, as well as humans. Healthy soils contribute to more nutritious grasses and hay which turn into healthy feed for our animals thus producing better cattle from our farm to yours.
sUSTAINABILITY
Environmental sustainability is at the forefront for farmers and ranchers. Constant evaluation of soils, access to clean water for cattle and erosion control is critical. SR has embarked on this front by not only working on soil health but also restricting cattle from creeks and the river while providing fresh water to the cattle. We are also working on erosion control projects which had the added benefit of providing habitat for wildlife. We believe that a balanced and managed cattle operation can enhance the condition of the soil, protect water quality and will provide significant carbon sequestration.
